My name is Kylabelle. I am a 13 pound female spayed long haired Jack Russell mix and I was abandoned by my owner. My foster mom believes I was treated poorly by my previous owner since I am so skittish around new people and flinch away from quick movements. Fortunately, RUFF found me and now I am learning that it is OK to come out of my shell and socialize with strangers. It might take me a few days to trust you enough to be relaxed in your presence but when I do I am the sweetest thing on four legs (so says my foster mom). If you are looking for a loving but not clingy friend who doesn't require lots of time for exercising, I am your dog. I am completely housetrained and crate trained but there really is no need to confine me to the crate since I am a perfect lady when left unattended. There is this quirk that I have which makes my foster mom laugh; I have a love for my human's shoes. I don't chew on them or damage them in any way; I just like to get them and bring them to my bed when they are away from home or just out of eyesight. The shoes smell like my human and bring me comfort when I'm alone. My foster mom laughs even more when I have both her shoes and my foster dad's shoes all piled up with me in the bed when they come home from work. At night, I sleep quietly in a dog bed either in another part of the house or in the bedroom with my humans; as I build confidence, I prefer to stay in the room with them but I don't try to sleep in the bed with them at night (they move around too much for me). In the mornings, I am the most excited and I show it by running all over the room and jumping on and off the bed while "talking" to my foster parents with little grumbles and chirps. I absolutely love mornings! Leash walks are great and I am pretty good at it if you don't mind me circling around you every now and again. I like to keep checking on where my human is so I turn around frequently to reassure myself that she is still there. Even though I have never been around cats in my current foster home, my foster mom feels pretty confident that I would be fine with them. I am also great with other dogs but I don't really like to play with any of them so I would be fine as an only dog as well. I do have an issue with loud noises and chaos in that I want to "fix" it or make it stop which means I try to keep dogs from tugging on toys and I bark at children that move too quickly or are too loud. Because of this, my foster mom believes I would be better in a home without children or with older children that know how to act around a dog. Strangers in my home can also be somewhat scary for me but I am learning to adapt to it. I sometimes bark at people if I'm not comfortable with them but I never try to bite and if the person ignores me, I eventually come up to them and check them out. By the second visit, I am usually comfortable enough with them to allow them to pick me up. I just need a little more time to get to know new people. Oh and one more thing, I like to smile a lot. When I come up to someone, I often have a very big grin on my face. This startles some people but my tail is wagging and I am enjoying your company if I am smiling at you. The morning smiles are even better and my foster mom loves the ones where only one side of mouth is smiling and the other side is relaxed. She says I look so funny! I do like to bark at things or people that are moving outside of my house but that may change if I get with a group of dogs who don't do the same thing; my current foster siblings bark at everything so it could be making me more prone to do that. But really, I am a very sweet dog and want to be with people but I am more independent than most dogs and am completely happy sleeping in the other room while you watch TV; fortunately, this also means I am a very easy keeper and don't require much exercising to keep me happy and looking good. Will you consider giving me the chance to love and trust you for the rest of my life? (AM)
